In the Beginning...

FableLabs started out in 2008 as Tribal Crossing, an application developer creating new types of social experiences on Facebook's fledgling platform. Our belief was that games could function as a social lubricant, helping bring new people together through games that showcased their humor and personality. We ended up building a host of polling apps, quiz apps, and lightweight games to match people up with others with similar interests.  While some of our products reached as many as 4 million monthly users, ultimately we pivoted away from this strategy as virality on Facebook ground to a halt, making low monetizing social games a difficult strategy to pursue.

In late 2011, we changed our name and vision as we geared up to release a our new game engine and slate of games that are centered around our new strategy of making story driven games.  We look forward to an exciting future at FableLabs but from time to time we reflect fondly at the innovative, albeit financially unsuccessful games that we did while at Tribal Crossing:

Pictophone

Pictophone is a hilarious game of miscommunication. It's like the old children's game "Broken Telephone" but our version is played with drawings and captions!

(1) The game start with a funny caption
(2) The next player must come up with a picture that describes that caption
(3) Then, the next player has to guess what caption the drawer had seen.
(4) This process repeats itself until you reach the end of the chain and all players can see what the original message was and what it morphed into!
(5) Players can reward each other by voting up their favorite renditions

"This is the best app EVER.  I've switched from smoking it to injecting it directly into my bloodstream!" – Crazed Fan #89403257

Pictograph

Pictograph tests your ability to solve funny quotes, phrases and sayings by looking at a series of pictures (i.e. picture of a screw + picture of a baseball = “screwball”). You can even make your own messages by uploading pictures, sketching them or using one of the thousands we supply. Your puzzles will be shared and rated amongst anyone that plays.

"Pictograph is certainly a fun game and deserves to be up in the higher tiers of the app gallery. Its simple, nostalgic game play makes for fun and thought invoking puzzles, and the fact that players can create their own adds a wonderful social element and a near infinite number of possibilities. It is certainly a game worth checking out." Inside Social Games Full Review>>
